5 Blue Oceans and RXN HUB work together on the cross-border side of industrial technology commercialization, connecting Japanese and global organizations with North American scale-up infrastructure and the ecosystem around it.

RXN HUB gives researchers, start-ups, SMEs, corporate adopters, and governments access to the four things a hard-technology venture cannot improvise: infrastructure, talent, ecosystem partners, and capital. It operates as an alliance rather than a single institution, drawing on funding organizations, service providers, suppliers, infrastructure partners, government, industry associations, and academic institutions.

Where that ecosystem concentrates around a theme, it forms a Centre of Excellence. Current programmes cover arctic and rural development, automotive and mobility, semiconductor materials, and an Eastern Ontario advanced manufacturing cluster formed through NGen Canada's Cluster Accelerator Network.

Our perspective

Most cross-border strategies fail on sequence, not on analysis.

The plans are usually competent. What goes wrong is the order in which an organization places its commitments, and whether it is built to keep them once the market begins testing. That is the problem we work on.

Judgment over throughput

The questions that decide cross-border outcomes are rarely analytical. They turn on reading a silence correctly, or knowing which hesitation in a meeting mattered, and those signals do not survive being summarized up a hierarchy.

A recommendation, not a menu

We take a position and expose the reasoning so it can be argued with. Presenting five balanced options is a way of avoiding responsibility for the answer.

Commitment before traction

In markets that select for endurance, the evidence a counterparty needs is evidence of commitment itself. The minimal-commitment entry answers that question badly.

Subtraction is the work

Transformation programmes fail from accumulation. Deciding what stops requires outside conviction, which is frequently the most useful thing an advisor brings.
